How many of you agree (to this bumper sticker material statement) that happiness can be found in the simplest of things? I do. Last Friday, I found happiness in the simple fact that I can go to sleep without setting my alarm on because I didn’t have to worry about waking up early the next morning. Yeap, I had a schedule-free Saturday morning, which gave me the luxury to sleep in. I even turned down an invitation to play futsal in the morning because being glued to my bed for a little longer was simply more exciting.
So, my itinerary last weekend was just an afternoon meeting with DR and one of our friend who’s been helping us in this new project that we’re having (sorry, we still can’t spoil it to you just yet) and Hardwell (read about it here). Anyways, as I was enjoying my lazy Saturday morning, a question popped out in my head, what should I wear today?
I wanted to portray a smart-casual look since it’s a work-related meeting, and because it was weekend. Another issue was, I still had to think about what I have to wear to Hardwell; how to look stylish in two totally different occasions without putting too much effort in preparing two different sets of outfit.
In that particular “not-knowing-what-to-wear” moment, I decided to search for some style inspiration. And I stumbled upon some of Tommy Ton’s photos during a spring summer fashion week in the street of New York, Paris and Milan.
Here’s what I found.
Notice the similarities that these guys share in this photo collage? Yeap, they were all wearing a plain white t-shirt. You can never go wrong with a plain white tee.
For a Hypebeast kinda look, you can just wear a pair of jeans, a sunglasses and a snapback. Or, you can add an outer! Like a long camo parka or a long black parka to keep it monochromatic. For some semi-formal look or an afternoon function, tuck your tshirt in and wear a basic color jacket or shirt as an outer. And, if you wanna go a bit formal, you can just wear it with a blazer, and bring your man purse to complete the look.
What a perfect outfit solution to survive a super sunny Jakarta. I immediately knew what to wear to Hardwell. The combination of a plain white tee, dark shorts, slip ons, and snapback became my rave attire.
And, for my smart-casual meeting attire, the inspiration came from Nick Wooster. He paired his plain white tee with a striped-shirt. Once I saw the photo, I quickly opened my closet to find one of my favorite tailor-made striped shirt that has been staying in the closet a little bit too long now due to the rainy season a few months ago. Some of you were like, wait did he say “tailor-made?” Yeap, I sometimes went for fabric hunting, brought it to a tailor and made my own shirt. It’s way cheaper than buying it in any store, for sure. And, there’s only one piece of it in the whole world haha.
You should at least have one or two (one for each pattern, vertical and horizontal), striped shirt in your closet. You can wear it tucked in or untucked. You can also wear it as an outer, just like what I did last Saturday.
Now, to close this post. I’m gonna share with you some basic fashion items, besides a plain white tee, that every man should have in their wardrobe. Sorry, photos are not included, but I’ve provided some links. If you’re completely clueless, Google might come in handy.
